Dairying and livestock production has been a mainstay, and is now being diversified through the expansion of activities such as poppy production for the pharmaceutical industry.
The town offers a range of services to meet the needs of touring visitors, including a post office, service station, corner store and takeaway as well as an online access centre.
At the eastern end of the township is a delightful overnight camping ground, which is free. Bracknell is a gateway to the beautiful Liffey Falls, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
